How do I renew my license?

Modified on Mon, 2 Jan, 2023 at 2:26 PM

Renewals begin on November 1 and ends on December 31 of each year; some states may have different deadlines for renewing your license, you can check them Here. During this time, you are able to submit and pay for any renewal requests required by your state regulatorPlease make sure you complete your Continuing Education (CE), so you are able to file for your renewal. You can complete your CE by using our link with Mortgage Educators, see the article: Continuing Education (CE) for more information.

Steps to Complete Your Renewal
  1. Make sure your Individual (MU4) Filing is updated with current information.
  2. Complete all license items issued by the state(s). You can find a complete list of your license items by logging into your NMLS account.
    1. Steps to view your license items: NMLS Home page > Composite View Tab > Individual > State License/Registration List > Under License Items, click on the number to view the license items. *Note: You will not be able to file for a renew if you have pending license items.
  3. Complete your Continuing Education. You will need a minimum of 7 hours of CORE CE, additional CE may be needed depending on the state(s) you are licensed in.
  4. Once CE is completed and is reflected on NMLS, you can begin your Renewal on November 1st.
    1. Steps to renew your license: NMLS Home Page > Renewals tab > Attest and Pay > Review and select the licenses you want to renew > If one or more licenses you selected for attestation requires a background check or credit report authorization, you are prompted through the authorization screen, select the checkmarks and click Next > Proceed to Invoice.
  5. Once step 4 is completed, the state will review your request, communicate any identified issues, and update the status of your renewal.

If you are not eligible for renewal, there may be a few possible reasons causing this to occur
  • You have not completed CE requirements.
    • Once CE is reflected in NMLS, the license should display as eligible for renewal.
  • Regulator has prevented Renewal.
    • Once the Prevent Renewal flag is lifted by the state regulator, the license should display as Eligible for Renewal.
  • License status prevents submission of a renewal request.
